A postcard from Conference...

"I see a country where you choose the most important things in life - the school your child goes to and the healthcare you get. I see a country where communities govern themselves - organising local services, independent of Whitehall, a great handing back of power to people." - David Cameron, Conservative Party Conference 2009
Send us your examples where you are taking back control from the state...
Following David Cameron’s thought-provoking, candid and at times extremely moving speech in Manchester, we have a job ahead of us. We need to provide examples, from around the country, where people ARE taking over the organisation of local services, embodying the decentralised community-based vision David Cameron set out.
Whether this is through food co-ops, farmers’ markets, urban academies for young people to fulfil their creative potential—like the one being set up in Southwark—or parents on an estate collectively organising childcare facilities, or Asian doctors in Wandsworth setting up a 24 hour GP service we need to know about it and share information with others hoping to undertake similar projects.
With this in mind, we will set up a section of this site called ‘Making It Happen’, and hope that you will contribute examples, along with a contact email or website address so that others can get advice from you.
We will shortly also be contacting all PPCs so that they can keep an eye out for good projects and give publicity to them.
We look forward to hearing from you.
POWER TO THE PEOPLE!
